Above the Clouds: Video Post-Production
(This is part three of my Behind the Scenes series, following along behind the scenes of a recent Aerochase video production. Click here for Part One and here for Part Two.)
The third and final step of the Video Production process is the Post-Production. Once all the footage has been shot and loaded onto my external hard drives, it’s time to start editing. Depending on the type of shoot, this can be a fairly straightforward process or an incredibly complex one.
For this project, most of the editing work comes from watching the footage back and finding the best take for the final cut. We shot about 60 minutes of footage, and I needed to cut it down to two one-minute videos.
Once everything is cut together, I add B-Roll to the video. B-Roll is typically detail shots to illustrate what a subject is speaking about or to visually demonstrate emotion for the audience. It can also help hide cuts in the interview for a more seamless watching experience.
After the final edit is ready, I go through and adjust the levels of the audio so that everything feels balanced, and then add color correction and color grading as final steps.
After that, it’s time for export! I usually watch the video back a few times to make sure that everything flows and feels cohesive. Once the video is finished, I deliver it to my client. Clients will typically have some revisions after they see the video, so I always keep project files accessible.
That is the entire process of a video production from start to finish from Pre-Production to Production to Post-Production. I hope you enjoyed this series!
